Car & Motorcycle Rally at Cropton – August 2013
On Sunday 18th August 2013 a gathering of vintage cars and motorcycles took place in the Cropton Village Hall field. There was an early rain shower, but the weather was very kind after that and an excellent number of vehicles turned up at the rally.
There was a large turnout of motorcycles which included a fair number of Harley Davidsons, plus a good contingent of British vintage bikes. Amongst the large display of old cars was a Fraser Nash, a Model T Ford, an E.Type Jaguar, Lagonda and an XK120 Jaguar. The “guess the weight” of the Cortina competition was won by a visitor from Leeds, who was staying on a campsite in Pickering.
Inside the village hall there was a display by the Cropton Heritage Group, a bric-a-brac stall, a book stall, tombola and delicious home-made refreshments. Outside the hall the visitors were entertained by the Rosedale Swing Band, which added to the great atmosphere of the rally. The event raised over £1,200 for village hall funds.
Many thanks must go to the organizers, Angela and Graham Carter, the exhibitors that brought their vehicles and to everyone that helped with this event – it seems to grow year by year. Thank you to Brian Wright and Graham Carter for sending their photos. It is hoped that all visitors enjoyed themselves!
