The Christmas Carol Service at the Methodist Chapel was held on Friday 14th December 2012. This year the chapel welcomed The Newton Choir who performed a number of group and individual seasonal songs. The congregation also sang many traditional carols. A lovely supper was served afterwards. The collection for chapel funds raised £135.25. Thank you to all involved!
The Ryedale Lions brought Santa for a visit on Monday 10th December 2012. This year they were collecting for a number of charities including St Catherine’s Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer. Santa also visited other villages and collected over £500 on the night.
A traditional Mell Supper was held in the village hall on Saturday 6th October 2012. The ladies of the W.I. organised the supper, which was very well attended. Afterwards, a game of dominoes was arranged.
HARVEST FESTIVAL – METHODIST CHAPEL
The annual Harvest Festival service was held at the Methodist Chapel on Friday 5th October 2012. Mr Robert Rayner was the preacher. The service was followed by an auction of produce, with auctioneer Mr David Barber. Tea and biscuits were served after the auction. The auction raised £211.80 for chapel funds. HARVEST SERVICE AT ST GREGORY’S CHURCH
On Sunday 30th September 2012 an harvest service was held at St Gregory’s Church. There was an excellent attendence and a sum of over £200 was raised for chuch funds. Afterwards light refreshments were served to the congregation.
HERITAGE GROUP VISIT TO HELMSLEY
On Friday 28th September 2012 the members of the Cropton Heritage Group made a very interesting and informative visit to the English Heritage Archaeology Store at Helmsley.

CHARITY MUSICAL EVENING – Scarborough Hospital Special Baby Unit
On Saturday 8th September 2012 a musical evening, organised by Rachel and Mark Anderson, was held in the Village Hall – An evening of song and music performed by Rachel, her father Peter Reynolds, sister Becky Reynolds and friends in the Reflections Group raised over £500 for Scarborough Hospital’s Special Baby Unit. Thanks to all that gave support to this event.
W.I. LADIES DAY OUT TO ESK VALLEY THEATRE
The ladies of Women’s Institute enjoyed a day trip over the North York Moors on Wednesday 22nd August 2012 and a visit to the Esk Valley Theatre in Glaisdale. They had a lovely lunch at Broom House in Egton Bridge beforehand. See a photo montage of year 2012 W.I. members.
VINTAGE CAR & MOTORCYCLE RALLY
The annual gathering of old motor cars and motorbikes took place at the village hall on Sunday 19th August 2012. Nearly £1,000 was raised for hall funds. See a few photos of the rally.
RYEDALE SHOW SUCCESS
The local W.I. Ladies were successful at the local Ryedale Show on 31st July 2012. They won a number of prizes including one with an ‘Olympic themed’ presentation. Well done to the ladies!
On 28th July 2012 a ‘Summer Fete’ was held at the village hall. A cream tea was served to visitors and a number of stalls including Tombola, Cakes, Bric-a-Brac and a garden produce stall helped raise over £600 for St Gregory’s Church funds. The event was well attended.
QUEEN ELIZABETH JUBILEE CELEBRATION – To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee on the 4th June 2012 a tree was planted at the top of the village by Joyce Wright. Afterwards a superb vintage themed tea was served in the village hall. The event was extremely well attended and many thanks must go to the ladies that organized the event. A cake stall was held under the village Chestnut Tree on Monday 4th June 2012. An amount of £222.00 was raised for St Gregory’s Church funds.
POCKLINGTON CIRCUIT CHOIR
The Methodist Chapel held their anniversary in the village hall on Saturday 26th May 2012. A lovely concert was given by a 30 strong Pocklington Circuit Choir, together with a conductor and organist. Songs from film and theatre were mixed with some entertaining stories from a choir member. Well done to all of them and many thanks for a very enjoyable evening! An abundant supper was served after the event. A collection was taken afterwards for chapel and village hall funds, raising £162.75.
BEADLAM TRACTOR RUN
Around 250 tractors, old and new, drove through Cropton village on Sunday 6th May 2012, raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
On Saturday 5th May 2012 a well attended ‘Spring Fair’ was held in the village hall. Visitors enjoyed cream teas and browsing around a number of stalls. The cake stall ‘sold out’ (thank you to the excellent bakers) and the other stalls were very busy indeed. A big thank you to all helpers, contributors and attendees of this event. A useful sum of £548 was raised for the Chapel funds.
