CHRISTMAS CAROLS
The ‘Christmas Carols’ service was held at St.Gregory’s Church on Wednesday 20th December 2017. The church was beautifully decorated and the service was very well attended. Refreshments were served afterwards.
VISIT BY SANTA
The Ryedale Lions brought Santa on his annual visit to the village on Monday 4th December 2017. The Lions were raising money for four local charities.
CHURCH CHRISTMAS FAIR
On Saturday 18th November 2017 the village hall hosted a christmas fair. There were a number of stalls in the hall for visitors and refreshments were served. The event raised funds for St. Gregory’s Church.
THE 17th PEACOCK QUIZ
The 17th Peacock Quiz was held in the village hall on Friday 10th November 2017. ‘Auntie Annes’ Castlegate Bakery, Helmsley meat pies, mushy peas & gravy were served, followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. The well attended quiz was most enjoyable, as always! Many thanks Richard and Pat, plus all helpers. Over £300 was raised for village hall funds.
MALTON MALE VOICE CHOIR
On Friday 6th October 2017 the Malton Male Voice Choir made a welcome return to the village hall and performed a variety of songs. Led by musical director, Vivian Wilcock, it was a very enjoyable evening!
10th VINTAGE CAR & MOTORCYCLE RALLY
There was a wonderful turnout of vintage cars and motorcycles at the 10th annual rally which was held in the village on Sunday 20th August 2017. The field behind the village hall was full to capacity with a wide variety of vehicles and there were further exhibits in the main street. Entertainment was provided by the ‘Fool’s Gold’ group from Newcastle. The village hall had bric-a-brac, tombola & book stalls and there was a lovely spread of refreshments available. The event raised over £1,500 for village hall funds. Many thanks to the organizers, Angela and Graham Carter, all exhibitors and everyone who helped and attended the event. AFTERNOON TEAS & STALLS
On Saturday 29th July 2017 an ‘Afternoon Teas and Stalls’ event was held in the Village Hall. Delicious homemade afternoon teas were served. There were numerous stalls including bric-a-brac, plants, cake stall and tombola. A raffle was held and the event raised over £500 for St Gregory’s Church.
TRACTOR RUN
The Beadlam Tractor Run came through the village on Sunday 30th April 2017. Money was being raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
SPRING FAIR
There was a well attended ‘Spring Fair’ held in the village hall on Saturday 29th April 2017. Stalls included bric-a-brac, tombola, cake stall and a ‘boys toys’ stall. Refreshments were served in the hall. £353.00 was raised for village hall funds.
ADVENTURES IN SOUTH AFRICA
A slideshow presentation and talk about a visit to South Africa was given to the Women’s Institute in the village hall by Robert Aconley on Wednesday 12th April 2017 – hopefully enjoyed by those that attended! Refreshments were served after the slideshow. Many thanks to all who helped with the projector and the setting up the presentation.
THE 16th PEACOCK QUIZ
The village hall hosted the 16th Peacock Quiz on Friday 24th March 2017. ‘Auntie Annes’ meat pies, mushy peas & gravy were served, followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. The quiz was very well attended and most enjoyable. Many thanks Richard and Pat, plus all helpers.
VILLAGE MEMORIES
On Saturday 18th March 2017 there was an afternoon to learn about the history of the village. An exhibition of photos, past and present, and memorabilia was held in the village hall. The event was well attended with some new material added to the archives.
AN EVENING WITH ADAM COLLIER
Adam Collier told some hilarious stories and poems, with a ‘broad Yorkshire’ accent, in the village hall on Friday 10th February 2017. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with much laughter. He is doing a great job at keeping alive a ‘language’ that seems to be disappearing fast. £400 was raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
