CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING
On Saturday 10th December 2022 the village hall trustees held a well-attended coffee morning. Drinks and mince pies were served. There was a book stall for hall funds and a well-supported bric-a-brac stall for St. Gregory’s Church funds that raised £170.00.
CHOIR & CAROLS CONCERT
At St. Gregory’s Church on Friday 9th December 2022 there was a choir and carols concert. The Moorland Voices Choir, led by Clare Haynes with organist Richard Haynes, gave an entertaining festive programme of Christmas tunes. Well-known Christmas carols were also sung by the congregation. The concert was followed by a get-together and refreshments.
VISIT FROM SANTA
We welcomed Santa to the village on Thursday 1st December 2022 at 4.30pm. Santa came in his sleigh and was ably assisted by the Ryedale Lions elves who were raising money for local charities.
The sleigh came along the Back Lane and went up and down the main street of the village whilst playing festive Christmas music. Santa made stops along the way to meet the locals and pass on Christmas greetings.
Santa was pleased to see some superb twinkly Christmas lights displayed on the village hall.
THE 20th PEACOCK QUIZ
After a three year absence the 20th Peacock Quiz was held in the village Hall on Friday 28th October 2022. Meat pies, mushy peas & gravy were served, followed by tea/coffee. Hosted by Richard the quiz was most enjoyable and very well attended. Over £350 was raised by the event. Many thanks to all the helpers and contributions made to the evening.
VINTAGE CAR & MOTORCYCLE RALLY
The 13th Vintage Car and Motorcycle Rally was held in the village hall grounds on Sunday 21st August 2022. After an event break of two years it was good to see a great turnout of vehicles. The grounds were packed with cars and motorbikes and visitors were able to enjoy viewing them in the lovely weather. An excellent choice of refreshments were served in the hall. There were a number of stalls in the hall including bric-a-brac, tombola, raffle and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. A grand total of £1,690.00 was raised for village hall funds. CHURCH SUMMER FETE
The weather was comfortable for the Church Summer Fete held on 23rd July 2022. There were a number of stalls inside the hall, including a bric-a-brac, cake stall and tombola. Refreshments were served and they were enjoyed both inside in the hall and outside in the marquee. The highlight of the fete was a village dog show which attracted a good number of entries. ARCHEOLOGY TALK BY JIM LEARY
A fascinating archeological talk was given in the village hall by Jim Leary on Wednesday 13th July 2022. Hosted by the W.I. the talk recounted the various projects that Jim has been involved with during his career. Starting with Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, a prehistoric round mound, and followed by The Round Mounds Project. All has led to an ongoing project at Skipsea Castle.
FERNWOOD GARDEN
On Saturday 25th June 2022 the beautiful garden at Fernwood was open to the public, courtesy of Mr Dick Feaster. There was a lovely display of flowers and shrubs for the many visitors. Refreshments were served in the village hall. The proceeds from the open garden raised £750 for York Against Cancer and Macmillan Nurses.
QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE PICNIC
The village marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a well attended tree planting at the ‘Old Pond’ by an elder and younger resident of Cropton parish. The event was followed by a ‘celebration community picnic’ at the village hall on Sunday 5th June 2022. View photos.
WHITE ROSE CAR RALLY
On Sunday 8th May 2022 the White Rose Car Rally came through the village. The rally featured over 50 vintage cars which came at one minute intervals.
OPEN GARDEN
With thanks to Dick Feaster the lovely garden at Fernwood was open to visitors on Saturday 23rd April 2022. The event was well attended and refreshments were served in the village hall. Over £900 was raised, which as divided between York Against Cancer and the Ukraine Appeal.
BEADLAM CHARITY TRACTOR RUN
The Beadlam Charity Tractor Run came through the village on Sunday 1st May 2022. The tractor run was raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
