Cropton Coronation Party 2023

The village celebrated the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the village hall on Monday 8th May 2023. The weather was not so great but the event was very well attended.

Musical entertainment was provided in the marquee by ‘The Travelling Hillbillies’. They did two brilliant sets … even the dog was enthralled by them!

Dick Feaster gave a lovely speech where he recalled many previous royal events that had been celebrated in Cropton. A Chestnut tree had been planted in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The tree has now become a landmark in the village. 1953 had been particularly memorable because many villagers had gathered around an old black and white television to watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Dick asked all those attending to raise a glass to toast the new King and Queen.

The village hall itself was packed all afternoon. An astounding amount of food was donated to the event. Refreshments were served and all the helpers were kept very busy.

The newly constructed ‘Coronation Terrace’ has been a great addition to village hall facilities and is an ideal location for the marquee.
