Platinum Jubilee Celebration in Cropton for Queen Elizabeth II – 2022
On Sunday 5th June 2022 there was a tree planting to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II at the site of the old ‘Dams Pond’. The planting by an elder resident, Ruth Turner, and a young resident of the village, Frankie, was well attended. The spade used to plant the tree belonged to Joyce Wright, aged 102 years, who unfortunately was unable to attend the event. Later the villagers gathered in the village hall for a picnic celebration.
A job well done!
Over 40 villagers turned out for the tree planting.
Here is a photo of the old ‘Dams Pond’ where the Platinum tree has now been planted. The image was originally taken by Sydney Smith and appeared in the Cropton History Book. The pond became smaller over time and eventually dried up.
